Well done to Refuse Collectors!
PR 118
11 January 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Great Yarmouth Councillor Patricia Page would like to publicly thank the Borough’s refuse collectors for the sterling work they achieved over the holiday period.
Despite the weather conditions all domestic waste collections were completed by Saturday evening.
The collections are undertaken for the Council by crews from GYB Services.
This year it was decided that all collections would be put back one day from their normal date, with the crews working on Saturdays to ensure all waste and materials for recycling were collected from homes.
“During the week after Christmas despite the bad weather everything stayed on schedule, even with problems such as getting large vehicles down icy roads,” said Councillor Page who is Portfolio holder for Recycling and Waste Management.
“During the second week, despite technical problems with some vehicles, which made some collections a day late, by Saturday evening everything had caught up.
“This was a really amazing achievement and I want to thank everyone involved for their hard work.”
“We did say that extra waste would not be collected, but as it was a holiday period some crews did pick up bags left with the wheelie bins,” added GYB Services Director Graham Jermyn.
“Please can we remind people that this will not happen normally. If extra waste is left it is not safe for our crews to load it onto the trucks with the mechanism working which empties the bins.”
