Holocaust Memorial Day Service
The Reverend Irene Knowles will be leading a service and wreath laying ceremony in Caister on January 26 to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Since 1999 communities have remembered the victims of the World War ll Holocaust - as the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, in Poland, was liberated in 1945.
Holocaust Memorial Day remembers the suffering of Jews, Roma and Sinti (gypsies), black people, Slavs and disabled people who, with many others, were the victims of the Nazi Holocaust which imprisoned, tortured and committed genocide.
It is estimated that up to 1.5 million people die in Auschwitz and its satellite camps.
It is the first time the ceremony has been held in Caister and it will begin at 11.30am. The Mayor will lay a wreath on behalf of the Borough Council.
The public is invited to the service or to pay a private visit the other two Jewish cemeteries in the Borough at Kitchener Road and Blackfriars Road.
