Food and Safety Forum Invitation to Businesses

With a raft of new legislation to deal with, Great Yarmouth Borough Council is inviting businesses in the Borough to learn how to comply.

A meeting is to be held on Thursday February 8 at the Town Hall to aid businesses to meet, amongst others, the requirements of becoming smoke-free.

Invitations are being sent to every commercial organisation where the Council enforces food safety and/or health and safety legislation.

As numbers on the night are restricted to 200, an early response to book a place is recommended.

“There will be six presentations,” explained Environment and Health Commercial Manager Sarah Cawston. “New legislation will affect so many businesses in the Borough we think they deserve some extra help.

“Delegates will be able to hear about how to comply with the new smoke-free legislation which comes into being on July 1, from our own expert Ivan Clarke.

“There will also be an update on the new licensing laws, as well as a presentation on fire risk assessments from the Fire Service.

“We are also covering topics such as our Food Safety Star Award scheme - which highlights the food businesses with the top standards to help customers choose where to eat.

“There will be a talk on asbestos, the recent high-profile court case involving the Atlantis club show how important that is, and we will also explain how we carry out enforcement action when a problem with health and safety or food safety is discovered.”

The Forum meeting is free and will be held in the Assembly Rooms at the Town Hall from 6 to 8pm. For further information call Sarah Cawston on 01493 846547 email sac@great-yarmouth.gov.uk.
