Private landlords in Great Yarmouth are being invited to a meeting to update them on improvements in Council services and to be given the opportunity to benefit from money-saving schemes. The Private Landlords Forum was provisionally launched in October to help landlords and tenants benefit from Council services and a special project which sees discounts on insurance, training and preferential access to repair grants and renewal schemes.
Regular meetings are being held, the latest of which is on January 31, which is aimed at all property owners including those already part of the Landlord Accreditation Scheme and those wanting to join.
“The scheme will be officially adopted in mid-February,” said Landlords Accreditation Officer Polly Williams. “It is aimed at getting housing in the Borough up to the Decent Homes Standard set out in the Housing Act 2004.
“The Accreditation scheme recognises the better landlords and the standard of accommodation they offer which gives tenants better facilities.
“Landlords, once accredited, not only get the money-saving offers they get the opportunity to advertise on the Council’s Homeselect website giving access to hundreds of people seeking accommodation.
“At the last meeting in October questions were raised on housing benefit and customer services issues. The meeting next week will give an update on how these points have been met.
“All private landlords are welcome - come along and see how the Landlord Accreditation Scheme can help you, and this is a good opportunity to network with other people who let property.”
The Private Landlord’s Forum will meet at 6.30pm at Comfort Hotel, 14 Albert Square, Great Yarmouth on January 31. To book a place or for further information call Landlord Accreditation Officer Polly Williams on 01493 846268, email pw@great-yarmouth.gov.uk.
