Mad Mag Day Returns

PR 210

Press Release / Photo Opportunity

The Magdalen Community Association and the Magdalen Youth Partnership have great pleasure in announcing the return of the ever popular Mad Mag Day.  This year’s event will take place on: Saturday July 15th from 12noon - 10.30pm

This years theme will be 'Activities 4 All' and will herald the opening of the new Magdalen Square play facilities due to be completed by this summer. There will be plenty of fun, games and competitions for the whole family with some great prizes on offer. Parents are actively encouraged to use the playground with their children.

Preparations for the event are well underway and we are pleased to announce the final line up of Bands for the Main Stage. This years headlining act will be the fabulous Modou Diof, star of the Live8 festival at the Eden Project. Bands making a welcome return to the Mag Day are crowd favourites, ‘Monkeyspanner’, ‘the Divide’ and ‘Innocence or Otherwise’. Other bands will include, ‘The Frank Morrow Band’, ‘The Charlotte Joyce Band’, ‘Mother Black Cap’, ‘The Sitdowns’, ‘Rivers’ and this years opening act, ‘The Open Shells’

New for this year will be the ‘Unplugged’ stage which will be featuring many talented musicians, including the mighty Llewelyn, Poets and other artistes.  A Real Ale tent as well as the usual bar facilities will also be hand throughout the day to provide refreshments

There is a fantastic Prize Draw this year with some fabulous prizes including a Family Holiday courtesy of ‘Haven Holidays’ and two children’s Activity Holidays courtesy of ‘PGL’.  Tickets for this are on sale at the Magdalen CLIP Office and other select locations in the borough, as well as on the day itself.

Among the other attractions on offer this year will be the return of the Barbarians, the famous battle re-enactment society, the very popular Climbing Wall as well as many other free rides, stalls and sideshows, and community group performances. Workshops taking part on the green and at the Methodist Church include “Spirit of Carnival” costume workshop and a “Junk Samba” workshop with Community Music East. The whole event will be brought to a stunning climax with one of 'Rocket Robins' legendary firework displays.

People are asked to note there will be no parking facilities on site. However the area is well served by Public Transport (Buses no. 1,8,8a plus Lowestoft buses all stop at Magdalen Square).
