Gorleston Lower Esplanade
PR 211
For immediate release12 July 2006
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is seeking expressions of interest from investors/developers for the construction and operation of a new high quality attraction and facility on the Lower Esplanade in Gorleston, centred on the site of the existing shelters and chalets.
Ideas should include proposals for the existing paddling pool and may wish to extend to trading onto the beach, but will probably be focused around a continental style restaurant.
The Council would grant a long lease to reflect the investment needed.
Councillor Barry Stone, the Council’s Deputy Leader, said: “In spite of some recent negative press this presents an opportunity to offer the residents and visitors a new attraction for Gorleston seafront.”
“Whatever is finally selected to go forward will have a strong focus on quality, not only from the perspective of construction but also the services and attraction offered.”
Further details are available from the Head of Property Services, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Town Hall, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2QF and proposals should be submitted no later than Monday 7 August 2006.
Proposals will be considered after which the applicants of the most attractive scheme will be invited to work up more detailed proposals for a wider public consultation prior to seeking planning approval.
