Dry Paddling Pool and Yacht Pond
PR 215
For immediate release
18 July 2006
Paddlers and sailors of miniature yachts are being assured that the temporary dry spell at the Gorleston Lower Promenade yacht pond and paddling pool will be rectified by the beginning of the school holidays.
Four years ago Great Yarmouth Borough Council sunk a borehole to help fill the yacht pond and paddling pool. This supply has now diminished to such an extent that a new borehole is having to be sunk.
“We were filling the pond with mains water but as well as being an expense, in these days when we hear constantly about water shortages - it isn’t the best way to use this resource,” explained environmental strategy officer Michael Stephenson.
“The only alternative has been to close the pool for the week commencing July 17 while contractors sink the new borehole.”
