Mayor to Mark Start of St George's Park Project

Major improvement work on St Georges Park, Great Yarmouth, will be started on Monday July 23 by Mayor of the Borough, Cllr Paul Garrod, armed with a spade.

The aim of the work is to ensure that St George’s Park, Great Yarmouth, is improved to Green Flag status. At the same time the re-shaped park will form part of an attractive ‘green link’ from the seafront to the river.

As well as changes in the park itself, the road layout and connections with surrounding green spaces will be improved.

Most of the work is being paid for through a £2.1million award to Great Yarmouth Borough Council under the Cleaner, Safer, Greener Communities Initiative, with a further contribution from Norfolk County Council for road and footway improvements. The work is being carried out by May Gurney under its strategic partnership with Norfolk County Council.

As well as the Borough Mayor, officers from the Borough and County councils will be available for interview to explain the project and the longer-term plans. The new layout for St George’s Park can be seen at an exhibition in the Christchurch coffee shop.
