Wrong Rubbish Day Cost Great Yarmouth Man £50
Great Yarmouth Borough Council has secured another successful prosecution for fly-tipping in a notorious rubbish dumping hotspot.
Nerijus Lekecinskas, of 21 Wellesley Road, Great Yarmouth, is this week counting the cost as he entered a guilty plea and was fined £25 and ordered to pay £25 in costs.
The incident, which occurred back in February 2007, was heard at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Curt on Friday July 20.
Mr Lekecinskas stated that he placed his girlfriends rubbish bags out on the wrong day for collection.
A multi-agency approach helped bring the case to court under the Great Yarmouth Refuse Byelaw 2000. A member of the ASBO team witnessed the offence in Broad Row, next to the George Street car park - a notorious rubbish hotspot. The Environmental Health Rangers took witness statements and put the case forward, which included footage of the incident from the Town Centre Partnership CCTV team.
Miguel Fish, Environmental Ranger said “That the prosecution was one success in an ongoing campaign against the minority who ignore the educational initiative’s and the information letters that we delivered to residents and businesses in the Broad Row area.
“If any resident or businesses is unsure of the correct waste collection arrangements for their area they can contact the borough’s cleansing contractor GYB Services on 01493 846846.
“We have several fly tipping cases that are being investigated at present, including CCTV footage, which is regularly handed over to us by local residents and businesses.
“If you witness an incident or have CCTV footage we would ask that you call the Environmental Health Helpline on GY 846478, wherever we can we will prosecute.”
In October Mustafa Aydin, was fined £600 and ordered to pay £400 costs for dumping cardboard boxes near his hair and beauty products shop in Broad Row.
