Points Mean Prizes - For Elderly Residents in Great Yarmouth

PR 201

20 June 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Points mean prizes – at least elderly residents in 16 sheltered housing sites in Great Yarmouth hope they will.

On July 11 teams will challenge each other in a quiz under the banner “Grey Matters Day” – but they need help from individuals and businesses in the Borough to provide prizes, please!

“Grey Matters Day” is an event arranged in conjunction with the Emerging Role of Sheltered Housing, which will see residents in retirement and sheltered housing holding events to highlight the role schemes like theirs play in community care.

“In the first round they will meet in their own communal rooms to put their wits against each other – they will all answer the same questions and the ‘judge’ will be a warden from another scheme, so there will be no favouritism.

“The winning team from each site will then take part in a Grande Finale at Wherry Way on July 21.

“We are asking for volunteers to donate prizes,” said Administrative Assistant Emma Penswick who is based at Wherry Way, Great Yarmouth.

“As you can imagine, it would make all the difference if we could award prizes on both occasions – so please can people help us!

“A small personal present, or something that can be used in the communal rooms would be ideal. Dare we suggest that a prize for the winning team – would make it even more special, there will be a trophy as well.”

Anyone who can donate a prize can contact Emma or her colleague Margaret Mollett or Frances Brzeczek on 01493 852784.

The sheltered housing schemes are Harry Miller Court, Frank Stone Court, Grenville Place, Wherry Way – Great Yarmouth; St Mary’s Close – Hemsby; Grove Close – Martham; Nelson Court – Caister; The Close – Bradwell; Manor Close, DaVoll’s Court, Charter Close, Ecclestone Close, Cherry Road and Trinity Close – Gorleston.

For further information contact Emma Penswick or Margaret Mollett on 01493 852784.
