Greek Mythology Comes to Life in Great Yarmouth

World Sand Sculpture Festival - Visit Ancient Greece for just £6

Around 60 artists from all over the world are congregating in Great Yarmouth this summer to create one of the world’s largest sand sculpture festivals. From 17th June to 10th September, Great Yarmouth will be home to the Olympic Gods, Hermaphrodites, Centaur man and woman, the Trojan horse, Odysseus and the Cyclops and many other mythological legends of ancient Greece, carved out of sand in the biggest and most impressive sand sculpture event the UK has ever seen.

Nearly 4,000 tons - of special rough edged river sand is being shipped in from Holland and with 15,000 tons of local beach sand, the attraction will stretch across 10,000 sq meters of Great Yarmouth’s Central Beach. It will take professional sculptors, jetting in from far and wide including Russia, Holland, Hawaii, USA, Germany, France and the UK, just over two weeks to bring Greek Mythology to life in Great Yarmouth.

The sculptures are made purely from sand and water and can easily withstand winds up to Force 7. During the first day of the festival visitors can watch the artists in action as they put the final touches to their magnificent creations.
