Help Us Plan for the Future

Residents in the borough of Great Yarmouth are being asked to help inform the Council’s planning framework and suggest sites to meet the Borough’s needs in housing, employment and tourism, and retail and leisure over the next 15 years.

The documents are entitled Great Yarmouth Site Specific Allocations and Development Control Policies Issues and Options Development Plan.

Letters and CDs will be sent out to interested parties, including community groups and statutory stakeholders giving them the opportunity to give their view on the issues.

“The consultation period begins on June 29 and runs to August 10,” said James Harland, Senior Planner (Policy). “Under the Local Development Framework we are required to identify the borough’s needs and suitable sites to help address these needs.

“We have laid out the issues and requirements facing the borough over the next 15 years and various planning options for dealing with them, including the development of land put forward by landowners and developers.

“But we need people to take part and put forward further suitable sites to accommodate the needs of the borough in a sustainable way.

“The plan has been split into three specific areas - housing, employment and tourism, and retail and leisure to enable people to concentrate on the areas which most closely affect them, and in which they have some knowledge.”

The documents will also be on display in Council offices, libraries and CLIP offices throughout the borough.

The findings will be published in a preferred options document in May 2008.
