Combatting the Mill Lane Vandalism
PR 138
1 March 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Great Yarmouth Borough Council and the police are joining force to help combat the recent spate of vandalism at Mill Lane, Bradwell.
Newly planted trees have twice been destroyed and playground equipment was set alight near the Mill Lane Community Centre.
The Council has accessed funding from the Crime Reduction Partnership which will help to fund cabling, fittings, and electricity supply to extend lighting from the changing rooms to the activity areas. Light fittings which have been smashed are being repaired.
“We expect work to get underway soon,” said Head of Environment and Health John Hemsworth. “The problem experienced by the police is that the area is very dark which makes observation and enforcement extremely difficult.
“I hope when the lighting is installed there will be the opportunity to deploy mobile CCTV equipment.
“Improved lighting should also help the police when they routinely patrol Mill Lane, as well as, helping local people who regularly use the area.
