FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Just two months into its new hygiene and safety standards awards for companies that handle food, Great Yarmouth Borough Council is proud to announce four more five star businesses.
The award was launched in January to highlight how local companies such as restaurants, cafes, food producers (even corner shops selling packs of sandwiches), were complying with legislation brought in by the Foods Standard Agency.
By February eight businesses had done so well they had earned five stars, the highest accolade, for good practices, structures and confidence in management.
Joining the list are Caister First School; California Tavern, California; Lyndhurst Hotel, and the Yceni Project, Great Yarmouth.
“We are pleased that more businesses have demonstrated top standards in hygiene and safety,” said the Environmental Health department’s Commercial Manager Derryth Wright.
“We have now assessed 60 businesses and 12 have made the top grade”
Businesses are inspected on a regular basis. They are not told an inspector is to visit and are judged on the way they are operating on that day.
If a poor score is registered they will be visited again to ensure they have complied with the inspector’s findings.
Certificates are awarded to businesses that have gone through the inspection for them to let customers know how well they did.
If you want to know if your favourite eatery has been inspected lately, and how it faired, you can
view the star ratings here.
“Displaying a certificate with the star rating isn’t compulsory but we hope businesses will use them,” added Derryth.
