University of Cambridge Certificate for Matt

PR 146

14 March 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Planning Enforcement Officer Matt Whitton has completed four years of study to receive a qualification from the University of Cambridge.

Matt, who joined Great Yarmouth Borough Council from the Royal Air Force in 2002, has studied topics as diverse as material changes to use of land and unauthorised open development.

His qualification entitles him to become an associate member of a professional body, the RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute).

To qualify you have to successfully achieve four modules of the course. Matt has now passed all five. The course has included attending lectures in Cambridge, and submitting written assignments.

“It has been a valuable way to gain the kind of knowledge I need for my job, and I appreciate the support I have received from my colleagues in achieving this,” said Matt.

His role as a Planning Enforcement Officer involves Matt addressing issues such as unauthorised work to listed buildings. He also works closely with the public to help them comply with planning regulations.

“Matt has achieved a valuable planning qualification,” said Head of Planning and Development Peter Warner. “It demonstrates the level of training our staff receive, and that our customers can have confidence that they are dealing with competent officers.”
