FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Youngsters at Woodlands Middle School, Bradwell, are staying on after normal school time to keep fit.
The school is one of seven in the Borough to receive financial help and support from Great Yarmouth Sports Partnership (GYSP) to help young people stay healthy and give them an interest in sport and leisure activities.
On March 7 Partnership Chairman Jim West and gymnastics’ coach Alf Dyer, visited the school to present badges and t-shirts bearing the Partnership’s logo.
Since November, two one-hour classes have been held to give up to 40 nine to 12-year-olds weekly tuition in gymnastics including floor and bench exercises.
GYSP, through its partnership working approach, has enabled coaches to offer the get fit opportunities to Woodlands and Stradbroke First, St Mary’s Primary, Breydon Middle, Waveney First and Cliff Park First and Middle Schools.
“Gymnastics is always popular and this initiative has given a lot of children the opportunity to experience this sport,” said Sports Development Officer John Pamplin.
Great Yarmouth Sports Partnership was formed in 2002 to bring external funding into the Borough to support community sports development, and to use sport as a positive tool to address wider social issues such as health, community regeneration, crime diversion, education and learning, diversity and inclusion.
