Springtime Reaches Pasteur Road
PR 158
29 March 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A little bit of sunshine at the weekend has enticed thousands of crocuses on Pasteur Road, Great Yarmouth, to bloom.
The crocuses were planted last November when Amsterdam based Lubbe Wisse won a contract from Great Yarmouth Borough Council to supply and plant 100,000 crocus corms in the central reservation.
The money for the floral display came from the successful operation of GYB Services, the organisation that keeps the Borough’s street clean and tends its parks and gardens.
Each year the Council receives a share of any surplus from GYB Services’ operation.
While GYB Services’ share goes back into improving delivery of its services, the Council decides how to utilise its portion for the benefit of the Borough.
For many years crocuses were a common sight around that part of the town, but they disappeared with road alterations. The Council decided to use part of this year’s surplus to restore the plants - many times over.
“The crocuses will be cheering many motorists on their way to and from work,” said GYB Services Operations Manager Bob Allen. “They are a magnificent sight.”
