Green Machine Tackles the Dirt for DERT

There’s a slick new green machine on the streets of Great Yarmouth and it is making a clean sweep of its job.

The Borough’s Dynamic Environmental Response Team (DERT) has purchased a new street cleaner, with money given by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund which provides finance to help improve local services.

The DERT squad is managed by GYB Services on behalf of Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

“Since DERT came into being in 2006 it has made an enormous difference to the streets of the Borough,” said Graham Jermyn, Director GYB Services.

“The team has a deep-cleaning programme which sees roads swept and washed, drains cleared and even weeds uprooted. It also deals with fly-tipping and if there is a spillage somewhere on the streets - DERT will be helping to deal with it.

“Some of its work is on narrow pavements and in alleyways which the large road sweeping equipment just cannot access.

“The new green machine, as it has already been named, washes the surface and can even deal with dog mess. It will be a great asset.”
