FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
If you have a healthy interest in getting and staying fit now is the time to have input into Great Yarmouth’s strategy for the next 10 years.
The Needs Based Leisure Strategy, prepared by Great Yarmouth Borough Council in conjunction with Tim Walls Leisure Consultancy Services, encompasses all sport and health related activities from football and swimming, to dancing, gardening and walking.
After months of research and consultation the strategy is in its final draft and the public and organisations have until June 3 to have their say.
“The aim is to provide a clearly defined and focused plan for leisure provision across the Borough,” said Environmental Strategy Manager Simon Mutten.
“We want to build on the success of projects such as Great Yarmouth Sports Partnership, which has brought £475,000 into the area to help provide sport and leisure facilities for all ages.
“Over the next decade we want to improve physical activity among groups who do not currently take part, this can be achieved through providing more coaches, develop further opportunities for non-sport based activities, and by promoting the community and social benefits of leisure activities.”
The strategy also has another aspect the use of sport as a means of tackling social exclusion, improving community safety, and increasing employment by showing people that they have talents they can use.
“It is important that people become involved at this stage to ensure the sport or recreation they enjoy has adequate representation,” added Simon.
