New Mayor to Take on Duties on May 15th

Great Yarmouth’s Mayor elect Sue Robinson will take on her new duties after the official ceremony at the Town Hall on May 15.
Councillor Robinson was elected unanimously by the Labour members of the Council at a group meeting on November 23.
At the 7pm ceremony she will be proposed by Councillor Michael Jeal, and the nomination seconded by Councillor Barry Coleman. The Mayor will then retire to receive her robes before signing the Declaration of Acceptance of Office.
The Mayor’s escort will be Councillor Jeal a friend of Sue Robinson and her late husband for many years.
The present Mayor Councillor George Jermany becomes the deputy Mayor.
Sue Robinson has been a Councillor for nine years representing the town’s Nelson Ward, where she has lived all her life.
As well as her Council duties, Sue also helps to run an afternoon club at the Harry Miller sheltered accommodation for the elderly, and is vice-chair of Peggotty Road Community Centre.
The Mayor is looking forward to her year in office when she hopes to meet as many people in the Borough as possible, and to learn more about the town of her birth.
“It’s no secret that I am disabled, but my motorised buggy is my legs and it will get me to all the civic functions I will be asked to attend,” comment Councillor Robinson.
“I see my nomination as a message to disabled people that we can achieve a great deal and meet all kinds of challenges - I see this as a step in the right direction.”
