Going Green Saves Time and Trouble

PR 185

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

More than 500 compost bins have been delivered to households across the Borough since January – thanks to a great offer from Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Norfolk County Council and the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

Recently sales figures by WRAP show that home composting is an economic and easy way to dispose of garden waste, which makes sense to lots of gardeners.

For just a few £s the problem of what to do with the pansies and wallflowers that will soon be lifted from flowerbeds to make way for summer planting – is solved! There is no need to get out the car and head to a waste disposal site.

A 220 litre composter, which doesn’t take up an enormous amount of space in a garden, costs just £4 - larger models are also available at 330 and 700 litres.

Plants and kitchen waste such as vegetable peelings break-down in time to provide rich compost for the garden – which again saves the money spent on commercial products.

“We are happy to supply up to three bins per household,” said Recycling and Waste Minimisation Officer Rob Cole.

“Anyone ordering a bin will also receive a free kitchen compost caddy – even small amounts of paper or cardboard can be put into the composter, they will all break down.”

Learn more about the scheme online or to order composters call 0845 077 0759.

For further information call Recycling and Waste Minimisation Officer Rob Cole on 01493 846441.
