Council Revenue Staff Get Teamwork Awards
Staff at Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Revenue Services have been receiving awards for their teamwork which has led to cuts in waiting lists for customers.
The team has pioneered a new system which sees benefit claimants using a tick list system when making a claim which has reduced the turnaround time from weeks to just days.
The department also worked with an independent consultant to clear its backlog of claims.
“To achieve all we have over the last few months we have adopted a new team working system which staff have actively embraced,” said Stuart Brabben, Services Manager Revenues Enforcement.
“In view of this we thought we should introduce an awards system which allows them to vote for their colleagues to illustrate how much they appreciate their co-operation.”
On May 17 Revenue held its own Oscar cum BAFTA awards with five staff picking up awards.
Most decorated was Benefits Administrator Suzanne Rumsby who received certificates for Team Player and Going the Extra Mile.
Kirsty Newland was adjudged Best Newcomer, with Rachel Lissamore the Rising Star. Phil Ransome is the Best All Rounder with Bernice Davis the Best Performer.
“I had some reservations when I first heard about the awards and my own nomination, but actually is has been a very positive experience as every one has been so enthusiastic,” said Bernice Davis.
Double awards winner Suzanne said: “It was nice to be given the Team Player award because I work with such a good bunch of people.”
“The awards reflect the hard work put in by the whole department,” said Managing Director Richard Packham. “Gaining an award voted for by your own colleagues illustrates just how working as a team can foster a real pride in the job and close co-operation.”
