PR 285For Immediate Release
13 November 2006
Each year Great Yarmouth Borough Council in partnership with GYB Services, offers parents the opportunity to plant a tree to celebrate the birth of their child - this year just nine families have responded.
The opportunity to watch a child’s tree grow and flourish as the youngster does is absolutely free to babies born in the Borough, to parents who are resident there.
A Trees for Life ceremony is due to take place on November 29 at Whimbrel Drive, just off Gapton Hall Road, and if you have had a baby born between December 2005 and now, you can commemorate this - but you only have until Friday November 24 to register.
“Each child that is nominated will receive a Tree for Life certificate and have their name entered in the Tree Book, which lists everyone who takes part in the scheme,” said Tree and Landscape Officer Patrick Tabor.
“We hear a great deal about safeguarding the environment for our childrens’ future and this is an opportunity to do that. Trees provide us with oxygen, reduce harmful carbon dioxide and protect the ozone layer.
“They are also a natural and beautiful way to mark a child’s birth.
“We are using a mix of native trees to suit the habitat, they include Hawthorne, Spindle, the white flowering Snowy Mespilus and the Guelder rose.”
Parents are welcome to come and watch or take part in the tree planting. If they are not able to attend, their child can still be part of Trees for Life.
