Don't Lose Your Vote

PR 286

For Immediate Release

14 November 2006

If you haven’t sent back your electoral registration form - you could lose your vote, is the warning from Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

Final reminders are currently being sent to those residents who haven’t yet responded - but the forms must be returned by November 24.

In September registration forms were sent to every household in the Borough and the return rate to-date is 83 per cent.

But not registering not only means losing the chance to vote in locals and general elections - being on the register has other advantages.

“The register is used for residency checks,” explained Elections Manager Linda Mockford. “So if you aren’t registered you might have problems opening a bank account, obtaining credit or even line rental when buying a mobile phone.”

It’s no good waiting until the next election and deciding then you want to vote - it’s too late!

If your household hasn’t received a registration form, please telephone the helpline 01493 846548, and one will be sent to you.

For further details call Elections Manager Linda Mockford on 01493 846308, or Electoral Services Officer Denise Harvey on 01493 846458.
