PR 289For Immediate Release
22 November 2006
Because attracting new investment to the town is vital, Great Yarmouth Marketing Initiative (GYMI) and its Patron Tony Wright MP hosted a reception at the House of Commons recently to highlight the opportunities and capabilities Borough offers new entrant operators to the UK Southern North Sea SNS.
Business leaders and representatives from Great Yarmouth and the region took their message of expertise, adaptability and skills to London; where many of the new entrants to the oil and gas industry are based. The cross-over to the wind energy was not forgotten as wind developers were also invited.
Richard Wright, Chairman of 1st East, the Urban Regeneration Company for Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft spoke about the vision for regeneration in Great Yarmouth. Andy Hilton, Operations Manager with Great Yarmouth-based ODE gave an enthusiastic overview of the town’s opportunities linked to offshore wind farms.
“Go where the skills are,” was the clear message from Neil Marcus, General Manager from E.ON Ruhrgas which has recently established an operations base in Great Yarmouth. In conclusion, Peter Hardy, Executive Director with East Port Great Yarmouth, gave an update on the outer harbour development.
“These are all exciting messages that are well known in the town and the region, but it’s important to take these opportunities directly to the decision-makers” said Steve Clarke, Development Director for Offshore Renewable Energy with Renewables East.
“6GW of offshore wind energy is planned for East of England over the coming years and we must ensure we are at the forefront of the service, operation and maintenance of these developments.”
Stephanie Pimlott, GYMI Co-ordinator said: “We were extremely pleased with the guests we attracted and hope that through the presentations and conversations with the representatives from the local supply chain, they took away with them the clear message about the capabilities and opportunities that await them in Great Yarmouth.”
Continuing with the theme of attracting new operators to the area, GYMI alongside EEEGR, Great Yarmouth Port Authority and Gardline Marine Sciences will be exhibiting at the DTI & PESGB Prospect Fair in London on 12-13 December. The event aims to give companies with ‘Promote’ licences a forum to market their prospects and “will be an excellent forum for us to test our offer” said Stephanie.
This is just part of a programme of exhibitions and trade fairs GYMI is attending over the next 12 months including OTC in Houston in April/May, EWEC in Milan in May, All-Energy in Aberdeen in May, Seawork in Southampton in June and Offshore Europe in Aberdeen in September.
