A new magazine just for local residents started dropping through letterboxes throughout the Borough of Great Yarmouth this week.

‘Borough News’ is Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s new publication aimed at keeping local people informed about the services the council provides, and how it is working with partners to transform and regenerate the town and surrounding areas.

“Residents have told us that they would like to receive more information from us direct,” said Council Leader Barry Coleman. “‘Borough News’ is another way we can keep people up to date with everything that is going on – from refuse collection and recycling, to regeneration and recreation. It really is a ‘Must Read’ for anyone who lives in and cares about our Borough, and follows on from distribution of the A to Z of services we produced jointly with the County Council.”

The 16-page first edition features an eye-catching front page based upon a photograph of Burgh Castle taken by Jannet Durrant in a competition among council staff. There is also a competition for readers, giving anyone who reads ‘Borough News’ carefully the chance to win a year’s membership – worth £300 – of the Marina Centre Horizon Multi-Gym. Distribution will take place over the next two weeks.

Chief Executive Richard Packham said the magazine would help residents keep up with the rapid change taking place in the Borough, and in the delivery of council services. “For less than the price of a second class stamp we are able to get important and useful information into people’s homes, presented in a way that is lively and interesting. The Borough Council is working hard to improve its customer focus, and ‘Borough News’ is another way for us to reach the people we serve. We are also hoping that people will be encouraged to come back to us with comments and suggestions, both about the magazine itself, and about our services.”
