Sandbags Distributed to Residents in Great Yarmouth
PR262
For Immediate Release
3 October 2006
Officers from Great Yarmouth Borough Council have investigated which homes in the Borough are most at risk of flooding from incidents such as the flash flooding experienced last week.
Properties which have been flooded three or more times have been identified and sandbags distributed to those in areas including Newtown, Southtown and Hemsby.
“There was no warning that we would experience the downpour which hit the Borough on Monday last,” said Head of Environment and Health John Hemsworth.
“By distributing sandbags to properties which have been hit in the past we hope this will allow residents to make plans should another incident occur.
“We have no evidence at this time that problems connected with tidal or river flooding is imminent.”
