Budding Artists Reminded not to Hang About...
PR 276
For Immediate Release
27 October 2006
Pictures for the People, an exhibition for artists of all ages is encouraging would-be exhibitors to prepare as the closing date for entry is approaching fast.
There is just three weeks left to get entries ready for the two week exhibition being organised by SeaChange Trust, and sponsored by the Great Yarmouth Port Authority.
In its 38th year Pictures for the People encourages painters, sculptors, photographers, craft and ceramic makers throughout the Borough to enter original works - which are displayed in the exhibition galleries at the Central Library in Tolhouse Street.
“Every entry is displayed,” explained Project Manager Sarah Ballard. “This is an excellent opportunity for artists of all ages and experience to let the public see their work.
“It is an equally great opportunity for the public to snap up original works, as we have stated there is a maximum price of £500 - although obviously there will be pieces to suit all pockets.
“We have had a good response to-date, and have sent out lots of packs which give people all the details they need to take part in the show.”
Entries need to be delivered to the library between Thursday November 16 and Saturday 18. The exhibition is from November 28 and December 16.
Entry packs are available from Great Yarmouth or Gorleston libraries, the Tourist Information centre on the seafront, or by calling Sarah on 01493 846550 or email mail@seachange-trust.org.uk .
The entry fee is £3 per piece with a maximum of two items allowed.
Pictures for the People was founded by the late Len Bunnewell, a long-serving Borough Councillor, who had a passion for libraries and bringing art to everyone.
The Port Authority is sponsoring the exhibition to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Haven Bridge, and pictures of the bridge will form part of the exhibition.
Stephen Eldred, Chairman of the Port Authority said: “I am absolutely delighted that Great Yarmouth Port Authority is supporting Pictures for the People.
“This long-established and much loved exhibition is unique in the region - providing absolutely everyone the chance to exhibit their creations, view a wonderful range of art work and buy pictures at affordable prices.”
Sarah would also like volunteers to be stewards at the exhibition.
“I started as a gallery volunteer as it is a good way to learn about art,” she added. “It is also an excellent way to meet people.”
