Council Reaffirms it’s Commitment to Scratby Residents

Residents of Scratby should be reassured that there is no immediate danger from the sea following the recent storms of the 8 and 9 November.  As a result of their concerns over the safety of their properties Great Yarmouth Borough Council carried out an inspection of the area.

Although some dune losses were found these were relatively minor and proved to be no threat to properties.  The storm caused a loss of between three and five metres of soft fore-dune however properties are still approximately fifty metres back from the beach.

Jim Shrimplin, Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “I understand the concern of the residents but would like to reassure them that there is no immediate danger from the sea.  I would also reaffirm the Council’s commitment to both the residents and Scratby Coastal Erosion Group into finding an acceptable long term solution to the coastal erosion trends here and throughout the Borough.”

This Council, together with others, continues to press the Government to include the provision of social justice when determining the future policies of our coast and coastal communities.”

Householders are advised that they should contact their insurance company if they have any concerns regarding the safety of their property.
