The Great Yarmouth Sport & Leisure Trust, formed by the Borough Council to take over the running of the Marina Centre, is delighted to announce planned improvements to facilities.

Swimmers will see extensive and very welcome improvements within the next month with the works staring immediately.  It is hoped that the works will be finished before the end of January 2008.

Councillor Graham Plant, cabinet member for regeneration and tourism welcomed the announcement.  “I am very pleased that since the Trust has become involved vast improvements have been made to the Marina Centre’s facilities.  It is very welcome news that a further £45,000 is to be spent on the wet changing areas.”

Upgrading includes new flooring and the introduction of further cubicles and lockers for the changing areas. This is stage one of the ongoing improvement plans that the Trust has for the changing areas and the poolside.

The Trust has seen an increase in usage since taking over in April 2006 and will continue to make improvements to key areas of the building. With over 100,000 swimmers a year this improvement will mark a sizeable investment by the Trust into the Marina Centre facilities.

The Boards Trustees have been drawn from a number of representative bodies within the Borough, including the Borough and County Councils, Primary Care Trust, Sports Council and the Tourist Authority.
