Sue Robinson Memorial

The life of former Mayor, Councillor Sue Robinson, will be remembered by family, friends and dignitaries in a special memorial service to be held on Wednesday 5 December 2007 at 7.00 pm in the Town Hall’s Assembly Room.

The service will be led by Peter Glanville, who was Sue’s Chaplain during her year as Mayor and will be a celebration of her life, looking back over the years when she first became a Councillor for Nelson Ward in 1995, to 2006, when she proudly had the honour of becoming ‘Mayor of Great Yarmouth’, the town she loved and lived all her life.  Sue’s family will be presenting cheques to her chosen charities which she had been unable to do.

The service will also see the launch of the Civic Awards for 2008, which was set up to ‘salute the Borough’s achievers of all ages and from all walks of life’ and was one of the proudest moments of Sue’s Mayoral Year.  The civic awards will be renamed the ‘Sue Robinson Civic Awards’ in honour of her memory and the Mayor’s Special Award, (winner last year Tom Garrod who overcome difficulties with Cerebral Palsey but still a dedicated member of Caister Lifeboat) will be changed to the ‘Sue Robinson Special Award’, for a person who has overcome exceptional difficulties, or has shown extreme bravery and courage.

Laura Goodman, who was Sue’s secretary during her Mayoral year said: “Sue was a very special member of the local community and it is only fitting that the community of Great Yarmouth come along and join family, friends and other dignitaries in a celebration of her life.”

There will be music from Dusmagrik Young Peoples Theatre and speakers will include: the High Steward of Great Yarmouth, Great Yarmouth Tourist Directors Alieen Mobbs, & David Marsh, Civic Award Winner Dusty Miller and close friend, Councillor Michael Jeal, who was also Sue’s Escort during her year as Mayor.

If you would like to attend this very special service, please contact Laura Goodman on 01493 846125 or lauragoodman@great-yarmouth.gov.uk, unfortunately places are limited and will be on a first come first served basis.
