Grey 2 Green Projects

Great Yarmouth Borough Council will be assisting local Community Groups to improve their neighbourhoods through two ‘Grey 2 Green’ projects.

The Grey 2 Green initiative centres around a range of community planning events in each location, which involves people and planners pooling ideas on how to make neighbourhoods cleaner, safer and greener.

Rob Gregory, Neighbourhood Manager explained: “This programme is about community-led design. Residents are designing these spaces to better meet their community’s needs. Recognition should go to residents of both locations who have worked tirelessly to make their community cleaner, safer and greener.”

The two schemes are part of a ‘ComeUnity’ Neighbourhood Management initiative and are funded through the Cleaner, Safer Greener (CSG) budget (part of the Governments Safer Stronger Communities Fund) and will provide landscape improvements at Swirles Place and Fox’s Passage in Great Yarmouth.

Simon Mutten, Service Manager (Environment) said: “The community groups prepared and brought these schemes forward for consideration by the CSG Board  with a view to securing grant funding, and were successful. It has been agreed with these groups that in order to deliver the schemes within the required timescale, 31 March 2008, the Borough Council will project manage them on their behalf.”

This process has been supported by Community Connections and C J Yardley Landscaping and is currently being evaluated by Priory Research Services.

The projects, when completed, will provide landscaping and lighting improvements along with better signage and seating.
