Remembrance Day Service Will Go Ahead

Improvement works being carried out at Great Yarmouth’s St. George’s Park will not prevent the annual Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 11th November from taking place.

Organisers Royal British Legion and Great Yarmouth Borough Council are keen to stress that the service will go ahead as planned.

Tim Ellis, Project Engineer said: “Measures will be in place to ensure that the service is not affected by the current works.”

The service being held on behalf of the Royal British Legion will commence at 10.55am and be taken by Cannon Michael Woods.  It will end at St. Georges Park at 11.40am and continue on to the Market place for a march past where His Worship the Mayor will take the salute.

The Mayor, Councillor Paul Garrod, asked for people to come along to the service to show their support for the British Legion.  He said: “It’s important for everyone to come together in support of all those who lost their lives for the freedom of their country.”

Also attending the service will be Lady Knollys the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, the High Steward of Great Yarmouth, Michael Falconer and other civic dignitaries.

Those attending the service are reminded that the area around St. Georges Park is ‘permit parking only’ and organiser’s advice is for people to use alternative parking at King Street or the Market Gates shopping centre.

Access to the park will be via the Trafalgar/Alexander and Crown Road entrances.

In case of inclement weather arrangements have been made to hold the service at St. Nicholas Parish Church.
