As part of Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s consideration of the revised Shoreline Management Plan (SMP), a meeting of Ward Councillors, members of the public and interested parties for the Great Yarmouth and Gorleston areas has been arranged for Thursday 4^th October at 7 pm in the Town Hall Council Chamber.

Environmental Services Manager Simon Mutten said ‘this meeting, along with those being organised by the Parish Councils in those areas affected by the SMP form part of the consultation process agreed by Members as part of their consideration of the plans adoption’.

Cabinet Member for the Environment Councillor Jim Shrimplin said ‘These meetings are not really to debate the SMP as much consultation  has already taken place in developing the document as it stands and the importance of the adoption of a Shoreline Management Plan to deliver a technically sustainable coastline over the medium and long term is recognised and accepted. ‘This  will be a listening exercise by the Council, with the views expressed being collated for consideration by Members as part of deciding our approach to DEFRA in respect of the plans adoption, particularly with regard to ensuring social justice.’
