Joining Forces to Support the Royal Anglian's Visit

Councils are joining forces to support the Royal Anglian Regiment when they visit Great Yarmouth on 27 January to exercise their ‘Freedom of the Borough’.

Alongside Great Yarmouth Borough Council and the Great Yarmouth Mercury, district Council’s in Broadland and South and North Norfolk will all be contributing to the event, which will see the regiment march through the town centre followed by a thanksgiving service at St Nicholas Church led by Canon Micheal Woods.

Leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Barry Coleman said this is a unique occasion and one that has not happened in the town for a long time; “I am delighted together with our neighbours in East Norfolk to be welcoming the Company from the Royal Anglian Regiment to the Borough.

“Parking at the Council’s Town Centre Car Parks (excluding Palmers) will be free of charge that day, so we hope to see as many members of the public as possible showing their support and appreciation of these brave lads who have recently returned home from the conflict in Afghanistan.”

The Mayor, Councillor Paul Garrod will be asked to inspect the Company together with the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, Mr Richard Jewson and both will take the salute before they make their way to St Nicholas Church.

They Church Service is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
