Drivers Urged to Park Responsibly
Offenders who illegally park within resident’s parking zones in the Great Yarmouth area will be prosecuted.
The warning was sent out by Michael Chillingworth, Parking Services Manager who was talking after the Borough Council successfully prosecuted a driver who had parked his vehicle with no valid permit displayed in Lancaster Road.
“I am very pleased with the result and I am sure that residents will be most appreciative to see the Council are pursuing offenders who park illegally within the residents parking zones. We would urge drivers to act responsibly and only use the Residential Parking bays within Zone A if you are entitled to do so to prevent prosecution.”
The prosecution is the first successful ‘not guilty’ prosecution for Great Yarmouth Borough Council, who operates an on-street residents parking scheme on behalf of Norfolk County Council.
The residents parking scheme came into operation in January 2007, with enforcement commencing in February 2007. The resident’s zone is bounded by Marine Parade, St Nicholas Road, Euston Road, Alexandra Road and St Peters Road and is operational between 8am and 6pm daily, including weekends and bank holidays.
On 25 January 2008 the Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court found Conrad Evans of 14 Copperfield Avenue, Great Yarmouth, guilty of parking his vehicle with no valid permit displayed in the Lancaster Road parking area on 23 May 2007. Mr Evans was ordered to pay the original fixed penalty of £55, a fine of £15 and £30 towards to the Council’s legal costs.
