Great Yarmouth at the Olympics
The handover of the Olympic flag in Beijing is the backdrop to an afternoon of celebrations on Great Yarmouth seafront on Bank Holiday Sunday.
Winterton Marine Cadets’ band will be playing on the forecourt of the Britannia Pier at 2pm. They will then process with the Mayor and Mayoress and civic leaders to the Anchor Gardens - where the big screens will be televising the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and the handing of the Olympic flag to Britain.
Then it will be Great Yarmouth’s turn to run its own Olympic flag up the flagpole.
Spectators are invited to move on to central beach to the final of our own volleyball competition. Teams from all over Britain returned to Great Yarmouth’s beaches after enjoying excellent facilities after the huge success of last year’s event.
