Great Yarmouth Marina Centre swimming pool is likely to remain closed for around another three weeks as a result of the damage caused by the high winds on 10^th March.

Environmental Services Manager for the Borough Council Simon Mutten said

‘”Following a detailed inspection of the sections of panelling above the pool hall it has become clear that more works than originally envisaged are required, which is further complicated by the design of this particular area of the building frontage.

We are continuing to work closely with our contractors to get the works done as quickly as possible. The necessary design works have been completed, the scaffolding has been erected, and materials are being delivered this week. The contractor has agreed to work weekends as well as during the week to get the works completed as soon as possible.”

He added “Phasing the work had been considered, but that getting it all done at one time was the most cost efficient way and would avoid the need to close the pool again in the future to complete the work.

We do sincerely apologise to the users of the pool for the delay, and hope that they will bear with us whilst the works are completed.”

Marie Hartley, Chief Executive of Great Yarmouth Sport & Leisure Trust who manage the centre on behalf of the Council, stressed ” the rest of the Marina Centre remains open for business whilst these works are undertaken and that alternative public swimming provision is available at the Phoenix Pool, Bradwell”.
