Register Your Vote for Elections
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is advising voters that they only have until April 16 to register their vote for the May 1 elections.
“Some people may have overlooked the fact that they still haven’t registered,” said Deputy Returning Officer, Linda Mockford. “While others may misunderstand and think that as they pay taxes they are automatically registered on the electoral roll.
“Although there was an annual canvass during the autumn last year, anyone who did not submit their details can still register ahead of the May elections.
“Voting is easy - you don’t even need to go to a polling station if you’d rather vote by post. But don’t leave it until election day to find out that you are not registered to vote as it will be too late.”
Great Yarmouth is represented by 39 councillors across 17 wards or areas of the borough. The May election is for a third of the Council - 13 councillors.
This means that elections will not be held in Caister, Fleggburgh and Lothingland wards, but all the others will have a poll.
To register your vote, or apply for a postal or proxy vote, call 01493 846327 or email elections@great-yarmouth.gov.uk
.
Completed voter registration forms and postal vote applications must be returned to the elections office by 5 pm on 16 April 2008 if they are to be accepted for this election.
