Food Safety Week Road Show

Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Environmental Health Department are trying to make food safety fun during national Food Safety Week.

From June 6–12, the Environmental Health team will be out and about in the borough demonstrating to residents how to be safe in their kitchens and reminding them just how important food safety and hygiene is. The event aims to get across a serious message but in a fun and informative way.

The events will be held between 10am-3pm at ASDA 6 June, Rainbow 9 June, Tesco Caister 10 June, Town Hall reception 11 June and Tesco Great Yarmouth 12 June.

Competitions will be held for children and adults alike. Children will be able to enter a colouring competition, with certificates being awarded for their participation. The best children’s entry on the road show will win a special prize. There will be a food safety quiz for adults with all the correct entries being entered into a draw to win a food safety hamper. Local primary schools will also be getting involved with the event, with the chance of winning a prize for their whole school.

Kate Watts, Commercial Team Manager said “I am really excited about this event, it gives the general public the chance to meet the Food Safety Team and ask us questions, it also gives us the opportunity to convey to the public the importance of food safety and what they can do to help achieve this”

Mark Burns, Head of Community Services, who will be judging the competition entries after the road show, said “Although great improvements have been made already with regard to food safety, we are continuing to push forward with new and innovative ways to get our message across”.
