
The Historical Market Place covers an area of approximately 5400 metres in the Town Centre and is presumed to have existed prior to the granting of its Charter in 1208.
The Six Day Market consists of 36 stalls of varying sizes, ranging from 2 metres to 6 metres frontage and consists of 9 chip stalls, 6 fruit and vegetable stalls, 3 refreshment stalls, 2 fish stalls, 2 book stalls, a butcher, a baker, an ice-cream stall, a donut stall plus several other traders. This Market operates from Monday to Saturday and when vacancies occur, are advertised locally for transfer by the traders themselves.
The Two Day Market is a General Market held each Wednesday and Saturday with approximately 100 traders, the sites varying from 2 metres to 10 metres. Vacancies are filled from a waiting list.(Complete an

The Easter Fair is held once a year on the weekend following Easter and occupies the Two Day Market area plus 2 other car parks. It is organised in conjunction with the Showmens Guild.
In addition to the above Markets, a Summer Friday Market is held on 20 Fridays (May to September) on the Two Day Market area.
Trading Licences are issued to all traders on the Six Day and Two Day Markets by this office.
When the Two Day area is not used for Market purposes, it is used a Pay and Display Car Park.
All the above Markets and Fair are organised and supervised by the GYBC Property Services Department.
The Market Section also works with the Parish Church and the Town Centre Partnership to organise the annual Christmas Fayre.
