Race Equality Scheme

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is currently updating its Race Equality Scheme.  The draft scheme together with the departmental action plans will be  published for consultation before formal endorsement by the Council.

The new Race Equality Scheme will cover a three year period from May 2008 until April 2011. The final scheme, as with our previous schemes, will be seen as a living document and the Action Plans will be revised to take into account changes in our Community

The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 placed a general duty upon local authorities. This duty means that in everything that the Council does, it must have regard to the need to:

• eliminate unlawful racial discrimination;

• promote equality of opportunity; and

• promote good race relations between people of different racial groups.
