Great Yarmouth Borough Council fully recognise the importance of the Private Rented Sector and the essential role landlords play in providing quality, affordable housing for the residents in the area.
The Council is therefore keen to provide landlords operating in Great Yarmouth with the recognition and support they deserve.

What is the Landlord Accreditation Scheme?
The scheme aims to achieve and promote the highest standards of conduct by both landlord and tenant, but hopes to set this in context of improving the environment and neighbouring regeneration in the borough.
The accreditation scheme is a voluntary scheme initiated by Great Yarmouth Borough Council in partnership with private sector landlords and managing agents. The scheme recognises good quality privately rented accommodation and good standards of management.

To raise overall standards of private rented sector accommodation.
To bring all accredited properties up to the Decent Homes Standard as defined by the Housing Act 2004.
To raise awareness of good practice by landlords.
To provide a service for landlords to find prospective tenants.
To provide access to advice, assistance and support to landlords and tenants.
To provide regular landlord forums.
The condition of the property and the level of provision of basic facilities and amenities are reasonable and satisfactory.
The owner ensures that the property is safe, secure and that good levels of cleanliness and hygiene can be maintained.
Landlords comply with all relevant legal and statutory regulations at all times.
The Landlord follows the Landlords Accreditation Scheme code of standards.
What are the advantages for Landlords?
The Council will provide a package of incentives exclusive to landlords who are members of the scheme.
Becoming a member of the accreditation scheme will indicate to prospective tenants that you provide good quality housing that is well equipped, hygienic, safe, and secure.

A comprehensive information pack and code of standards providing valuable information.
A periodic Landlord’s Forum to provide a venue for consultation and up-to-date information and legislation.

To be recognised by prospective tenants as a private landlord who provides high quality rented accommodation and good standards of management.

What is this going to cost me?
There will be a small fee for training courses but all the benefits of the scheme are currently free of charge.
