Great Yarmouth Borough Council is inviting residents to suggest ways it can give a better service.

“We are undertaking a structural review, which is the first of its kind for this Council as far as we know,” said Councillor Colin Hodds chair of the Policy Development Committee which will be overseeing the study.

“One of our directors Brendan Bergin will be devoting two-and-a-half days a week to the project.

“He has already liaised with senior Council members of both parties and will be talking to partner organisations such as other local authorities, the police and the Primary Care Trust - to ascertain how we can better work with them to the benefit of the Borough.

“But we also want to ask the public what it wants from its Council and to suggest ways we can improve our service.

“Once he has finished the consultation process he will be putting forward a series of suggestions which the Policy Development Committee and ultimately the Council will consider for implementation.”

“We hope to have finished the consultations and research, and to have identified our preferred option by the end of September,” explained Brendan.

“We are looking at four main areas which we feel need particular attention.

“These are customer services and improving access to them; revenues and benefits which we know has not delivered a top quality service in the past, but the introduction of new technology, among other things, will improve this; housing management, in light of the decision to stay as Council tenants we need to look at how this will be governed in the future; and with the advent of the urban regeneration company 1st East and the demise of SRB funding what role the Council takes in regeneration.”

“We know elements such as the telephone system still needs improvement, what we are looking for from the public is considered views on how the four elements of service mentioned need improving and, if possible, what they would like us to implement to give the standard of service required,” added Councillor Hodds.

Unfortunately we are unable to reply to any comments received but they will be taken into consideration when deciding on a preferred option.

Members of the public have until the 10th July to submit their views and suggestions.
