Floods are devastating – but on Wednesday experts are hoping to be flooded with people wanting advice.
An event hosted by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Anglian Water and the Environment Agency is to be held on Great Yarmouth Market Square.
It will be offering residents and businesses advice on how to protect their property, and also give an indication of whether they are at risk from flooding.
“People in the borough have experienced at first hand how devastating it is to find their home or businesses in a sea of dirty water,” said Emergency Planning Manager Jan Davis.
“There isn’t only the loss of furniture, stock or possessions there is sometimes the risk that a building is left uninhabitable for many weeks after the water has receded.
“There are steps that can be taken to minimise risk and the advice will be on hand from a range of experts. The Environment Agency, for example, not only has information regarding potential flood sites; it also has a wealth of experience in tips to deal with flooding.”
The free event is from 10am to 4pm at Great Yarmouth Market Place on Wednesday September 17.
The Environment Agency can be contacted on 0845 988 1188. Great Yarmouth Borough Council also has advice on www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/flooding_faqs.htm.
