Who Can Claim
You can claim Council Tax Benefit if:
- You are on Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance or Guarantee Pension Credit.
- You are on a low income (including self employed people).
You cannot get Council Tax Benefit if you are:
- One of a couple, including members of polygamous marriages and couples registered as liable for Council Tax Benefit at different addresses.
- A joint tenant or joint owner.
- A full time student, including non-student partners.
- A person from abroad.
A couple is defined as:
- A man or woman who are married to each other and are members of the same household.
- A man and woman who are not married to each other and are living together as man and wife.
