Where Can I Obtain Sandbags?
The Council does not normally provide sandbags for residents’ use, except during a severe incident when they are delivered directly by the Council to specific locations, as part of general public health protection.

There are a number of local builders’ merchants where empty sandbags and sand can be purchased, including the following:

 - Coopers, Bessemer Way, Great Yarmouth, Tel: 602204
 - Halls Aggregate Services, Beccles Road Yard Riverside Road, Gorelston Tel: 668808
 - Jewsons, Boundary Road, Great Yarmouth,  Tel: 657721
 - Travis Perkins, Boundary Road, Great Yarmouth, Tel: 650211

Further suppliers’ details can be found in Yellow Pages.

Businesses - The Council does not provide sandbags as a standby contingency for business premises.

How Long Can I Store Sandbags For?
Sandbags have a relatively short “shelf-life” and our experience is that after 2-3 months they begin to rot, so that when they are needed they split and empty of sand, making them unusable. If the sand is not cleared away it often is washed into nearby drains, causing blockages later, preventing water removal from gullies etc.

Can we buy sandbags from the Council if we collect them?
No – sandbags are not normally available for sale to the public from the Council, except under special circumstances when, during an emergency, they will be issued, at no charge, to residents directly by the Council.

How Can I Dispose of my Old Sandbags?
Residents are welcome to keep their sandbags if they have been obtained from the Council. If you have no where to store them they can be emptied on the beach or the sand can be mixed with soil and put into the garden.

·DON’T put sand down drains – this could cause a severe blockage and result in further flooding from the drains
·DON’T leave the bags in the street or on the road. They could cause an accident and are liable to split.
