Environmental Rangers provide a front line response to issues of envirocrime throughout the Borough.

These include flytipping, littering, dog fouling, vandalism, graffiti and abandoned vehicles.

They act as  the eyes and ears of the Council in relation to environmental problems, and facilitate the improvement of local environments through education and guidance, and enforcement activities. Their current role helps the Council  to identify where to concentrate their efforts to make a real, visible difference.

Environmental Rangers patrol the Great Yarmouth Borough daily, responding to complaints from the public. They also carry out statutory safety inspections. The Environmental Rangers monitor persistent problem areas and issue fixed penalty notices where appropriate. Evidence is gathered through CCTV surveillance and investigations among communities.

Enforcement

Rangers have enforcement powers under a large range of national and local legislation and byelaws. They are able to enforce this legislation through prosecution, covert CCTV surveillance, fixed penalty notice and patrols to mitigate problems of flytipping graffiti, vandalism, abandoned vehicles and dog fouling.

Monitoring

A key role of the Environmental Rangers centres around constant monitoring of the Borough for issues of environmental damage and safety. Scouring the Borough daily for these issues allows Great Yarmouth Borough Council and its partner GYB Services Ltd. to prioritise their response according to immediate hazard, and has seen a reduction in response times for a range of environmental issues.

Promotion

Working with community groups, voluntary and statutory organisations, the Environmental Rangers have a continued commitment to providing a visible presence at major events in the Borough, endeavouring to talk and listen to the public. They support and organise a range of events throughout the Borough, which aim to raise the profile of the Liveability Agenda and improve the Borough for everyone.
