Foreword

In 1997 the Borough Council co-ordinated the production of the 2020 Vision statement for the area. It set out what Great Yarmouth could be like in the year 2020. It was a positive vision and not just wishful thinking. Many local people helped stimulate the discussions which initiated the strategy. Many agencies were involved in producing it. Consequently it was founded on a projection of existing policies and plans, all which together could help to maximise the probability of that being achieved.

The vision has been invaluable over the last six years. It has provided the framework for much of the policy development and resources deployment during that period. It has, in a very real way, helped to ensure that agencies worked together towards common goals.

However, much has changed since its production.

Consequently, we have reviewed the vision to help it reflect these changes, both nationally and at local level. By doing so, we are ensuring that it has a continuing relevance for the community which we serve.

The vision is for the whole borough. Within it , there are both thematic and area-based strategies. Important though these are, of necessity they concentrate on specific geographic or other issues. 2020 is our aspiration for all the borough's residents across all themes.
