Council Estate Parking
Most of Great Yarmouth’s council estates were built in the 1960’s. At the time architects and planners could not have forseen the extent of car ownership which we are now experiencing.
Consequently some estates have very little provision for off-road parking which can lead to conflict and frustration for people living in those areas.
Some problems are:
- obstructive parking – vehicles blocking dropped kerb access or in front of garage doors
- households with several vehicles taking up space on the road
- residents not being able to park outside their own home
- vehicles parked on grass verges
- untaxed/abandoned vehicles
Generally we rely on people to be considerate of their neighbours. However, when needed there are some enforcement measures which are open to the council housing department and parking services department.
Vehicles causing an obstruction and parked on the highway (usually roadside or grass verge) may be an enfringement of traffic laws and subject to enforcement by parking services traffic wardens.

If you wish to find out information regarding general parking issues in your area please contact the Environment and Health Department. They will be able to advise on restrictions and permit schemes.
